DARJEELING TEACountry of Origin: IndiaRegion: DarjeelingTea Estate: ThurboAltitude: between 1300m to 2500mGrade: FTGFOP1 Manufacture Type: OrthodoxPicking Time: Spring 2018Ingredients: Luxury black teaThe Thurbo tea garden, locarted in the Mirik Valley is well know for its clonal teas. This Darjeeling tea garden was planted in the year 1872. As with most Darjeeling tea gardens, there is a unique story behind its name. At the time of their Nepal invasion, the British set up a camp in this estate. The word camp is known as 'Tombu' in local dialect and over the years the name has become Thurbo. This is one of our favorite tea from the second flush season of 2017. The dry leaves got from the clonal bushes of this reputed estate are a mixture of brown and orange with a fair amount of silvery tips. They give out a delicious aroma of honey, oranges and slight hint of dry forest leafs. The light golden-amber liquor has a creamy texture and a complex layered flavor profile with delicate sweetness and very little astrigency. The cup starts with pronounced floral notes (rose) and sweet vanilla. With each sip, the tea develops rich aromas with hints of tropical fruits and white grapes accompanied with spicy woody aromas. The cup has an excellent finish with a lingering mouthfeel.Steeping:2 teaspoonful per cup (2-3g tea per 8 ounces/ 240 ml) of water at 95°C (203°F) for 4-5 minutes. You can brew this tea through 3 infusions increasing the steping time by 1/2min with every subsequent infusion. If you do not have a thermometer handy to measure your water temperature, here is a quick guide:180° F / 82° C = bubbles form on the bottom of the pot195° F / 90° C = the first bubbles begin to rise212° F / 100° C = full rolling boil----We source our teas directly from Darjeeling, that is why we can offer such good prices for these high quality teas----More on Darjeeling teasDarjeeling tea is nature's gift to the Himalayan region of northeast India. The exclusive and rare character of Darjeeling tea is the result of several geographical factors. The Darjeeling Tea gardens are situated at elevations of 610 to 2134 meters on steep slopes that provide ideal drainage for the generous rainfall the area receives. This coupled with intermittent cloud and sunshine, combine to impart Darjeeling tea its unique flavour. Tea from Darjeeling cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world and is called the Champagne of Tea. As Champagne is to France, so Darjeeling is to India.Darjeeling manufactures only the Orthodox teas, that is, Leaf Teas and the harvesting season is between the months of March and November. The growing season of Darjeeling teas are, like many, categorized into " flushes ", from the first early spring buds and leaves all through the monsoon season and into the fall.First flush: picked just after winter's passing, are thought to be oolong-like in their delicate flavor, are lighter colored in the leaf and in the cup, and considered fresh and brisk.Second flush: is where the muscat flavors begin to develop, with a more forthright presence in the cup and notes that are likely to evoke currant and stone fruit with a more darker golden liquor upon brewing.Monsoon flush: The rainy soils of the monsoon flush literally muddy the flavor of Darjeeling teas—this season is less desirable.Fall flush: The final harvest is the fall flush, which steeps a deeper-colored copper and has a larger body. How to Brew Darjeeling Black TeaYou can get out your favorite porcelain pot for this one (knitted cozy: check!), or steep in your favorite vessel that allows room for leaf expansion.Heat your water to a first boil (90 ° C/194 ° F) or just below a boil—you may wish to closely inspect how oxidized your tea is first, and attenuate the heat higher for darker teas and lower, around 85 °C ( 185°F), for less-oxidized or earlier-season teas.Preheat your vessel by rinsing with a little hot water, and add 1-2 teaspoonful of Darjeeling leaves per 8 ounces of water.Steep for 3 to 5 minutes depending on your taste, and definitely try this tea without milk the first several times. You may add a little lemon or milk and sugar to taste as per your preference.Add the used tea leaves to your garden-they make a healthy fertilizer for flowering plants....SPECIAL DISCOUNTS ON BULK ORDERS...Shipping & Handling1.
